SolarAfrica & Proconics Bring Warmth & Light to Learners

3 min read

More than 200 learners from several schools in De Aar and Hanover can now step into winter with new gear and homework tools thanks to SolarAfrica and Proconics.

The donation forms part of the community upliftment initiatives of SunCentral, a renewable energy project located between the two towns. SolarAfrica is the Independent Power Producer leading the project, while Proconics is responsible for the engineering, development and execution of SunCentral’s transmission lines and substation.

The primary school learners received school tracksuits, shoes, and bags, while high school learners received portable solar lights to help with homework and studying – especially in areas where electricity is scarce. The learners were identified in collaboration with local schools and the Department of Education.

A big part of SunCentral’s commitment to local community upliftment includes education support. As these schools are in under-resourced areas with many learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families while improving learners’ readiness for school and their ability to study after hours. This donation forms part of broader efforts to promote dignity and educational success among youth in underserved areas.
