The Starsight Energy team partnered with Lagos Food Bank Initiative to pack Care Boxes for households in need. At the same time, SolarAfrica came together with Rise Against Hunger Africa to pack meals as part of Mandela Day.
With 77 Starsight Energy volunteers ready to make a difference, the team spent six hours packing a whopping 1,333.5 kg worth of Care Boxes, offering much-needed relief to 150 households and around 748 indirect beneficiaries. This inaugural Impact Day forms part of Starsight Energy’s CSR commitments, where all employees dedicate their time to supporting the greater good.
The Lagos Food Bank Temporary Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) feeds over 170 communities across Lagos. Starsight Energy’s support through employee participation and resource contribution strengthened the effort to combat hunger and raised awareness of hidden poverty.
Areas that benefited from the day’s activities include Agege, Eti-Osa, Kosofe, Lagos Island and Ogun State to name a few.
The SolarAfrica team worked alongside several other companies as part of Rise Against Hunger’s Mandela Day event at Mall of Africa in Midrand.
Teams were tasked with putting together start-to-finish meals containing rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a packet of 20 vitamins and minerals – all in a single bag – that is then sent to Early Childhood Development Centres. The meals can be transported easily and have a long shelf-life – ideal for communities that face food insecurity.
The mid-morning session packed just over 70, 000 individual meals, bringing the day’s total to 325, 000 at the Mall of Africa hub.
One of SolarAfrica’s core values is to be passionate and proud of what we do, and it was amazing to see the passion each team member had for playing their part in this special event.
